Re-engineering opportunity

Mitchinson Associates

About the Founder

Mitch set up Mitchinson Associates after more than 15 years of working in the public and private sectors, with some of industry’s largest companies.  This includes big four consultancies, leading suppliers of the UK public services sector, multilateral aid agencies  and some of the largest international market leading organisations in Defence.

Much of their work has involved problem solving, be that leading solution and operating model designs in the Justice and Welfare markets, reporting directly to UK Government Ministers on international Safeguarding policy, change and transformation projects at a UK nuclear naval base or supporting UK business to export overseas. With a wonderfully diverse portfolio of stakeholders and projects, they use this experience, as well as insight from associates, collaborators and clients, to develop imaginative, perceptive and effective solutions to business challenges.

“I believe that very little is unachievable when you have a cracking team, a shared objective, the ability to think creatively and a good chunk of data and insight. I believe this so passionately that I set up Mitchinson Associates so that I can do just that: bring together a fantastic, diverse and talented team, using solid, logical and intuitive data backed up by creative and disruptive innovation. I want to bring that to businesses that are looking for a fresh perspective, an injection of energy and ultimately to make their organisations more adaptable and resilient to impact and able to capitalise on opportunity.”

How we work

We believe that risk and opportunity should be considered together as part of all elements of strategy, planning and delivery so that clients are able to see how changes, improvements and failures impact the whole of their business. Through this, business systems and strategy will be more resilient and thrive, even in the greatest of adversity.

Mitchinson Associates wants to support clients that are looking for opportunities to develop, excel, transform and grow through nimble, confident strategy, planning and management.

Our approach to any task is simple and effective:

Step 1
Insight Anchors
information should be the basis of any plan or strategy. We will gather the best information, including company or external data, political or economic insights, market information, best industry practice, lessons learned etc. This will help us to form an up to date picture of where we are, how we got here, where we want to be and what we think might be coming our way.
Step 1
Step 2
Sense-checking
As valuable as information is, it needs to work in the real world and with real human beings. We also understand that new strategies must be cognisant of a business’s culture and objectives. This is why we work closely with clients to apply the appropriate lens to sense-check our insight anchors. This lens might be people-centred, sustainability, equality, diversity, culturally aware, just-environmental etc. and there may be multiple.
Step 2
Step 3
Stand-back
An important moment often overlooked - at this point we stop and think. We make sure everyone understands and agrees what the initial findings tell us and that the plan meets the client’s needs and expectations. We agree teams, governance and milestones. This stage doesn’t add delay, but it does give the project the best opportunity to succeed.
Step 3

Once this initial phase is complete, we go into delivery. We will always flex to client need – collaborative where the client and the project require, including integrated teams if suitable or we can take a client’s remit and work on it independently. Whatever the proposed approach, we will hold regular check-ins and always be available for questions, advice or just for a chat.
